Sand cats are the only cat species to live mostly in the desert. They open their mouths to pant as dogs do. This helps them cool down. The desert is full of dangerous snakes called vipers. Sand cats are good at hunting them. They use their big paws to quickly hit the snake on the head, then bite its neck. Mother cats have to protect their kittens from vipers.
