TITLE

Watch ABCmouse’s Early Learning Academy retell The Lion & the Mouse fable with a focus on vocabulary.

“Aesop” is from the Greek word Aisōpos. Unfortunately, historians know just as little about the meaning and origin of the Greek word as they do about Aesop himself. Pronunciation of the fabulist’s name is also not entirely agreed upon. The classical Latin pronunciation is AY-sop. The more modern pronunciation is EE-sop. You will likely hear it said both ways.
