The impactful 1980 Black Barbie was designed by Kitty Black Perkins. Black Barbie’s style was inspired by fashion icons of the time. In the late 1970s, when Perkins was creating Black Barbie, Diana Ross was a superstar. Black Barbie has a look similar to that of Ross in her disco-diva era. Her hair is big and her outfit sparkles. If you want to dress like Diana, look for shiny fabrics and accessorize with a boa.
