The Temples of Jerusalem were the center of worship for Jewish people. The first Temple held the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark was a beautiful wooden chest covered in gold. It held the laws God gave to Moses written on two stone tablets. The Ark went missing in 586 BCE and its final fate is still unknown.
