Thomas Jefferson’s life is remembered in many ways today. This is the Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C

In 1776, American leaders chose five men to write the Declaration of Independence. John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston, and Thomas Jefferson were the team. Jefferson was the best writer. Jefferson showed Franklin and Adams what he wrote. The Declaration of Independence said that America was its own country, separate from Great Britain.
