Epilepsy affects the body’s nervous system. The nervous system includes your brain, spinal cord, and nerves. The autonomic nervous system is controlled by the brain. It tells your heart to beat, your lungs to breathe, and more. The somatic nervous system is controlled by you. It tells your body to do things such as jump and smile.
