TITLE

Sailors in a submarine load a torpedo during World War II (1939-1945). The torpedo launches from the submarine like a bullet. German submarines used torpedoes to sink many ships during the war.

In 1800, a US inventor designed the first modern submarine. This submarine was shaped like a cigar. It also had a tower made of copper. The tower let sailors navigate while the submarine was underwater. A propeller powered the submarine below water. The submarine used a mast and sail above water.
