TITLE

   

The first would-be English colonists landed on the coast of North Carolina in 1584. The English tried to settle on Roanoke Island. However, lack of supplies forced the settlers to leave. The English tried to settle the island again in 1587. In 1590, a ship carrying food and supplies arrived to find that the settlers had vanished. To this day, no one knows what happened to them.
