TITLE

The US military has had mascots since the 1800s. Military members’ pets can also be mascots, like this dog mascot with members of the US Air Force in 1944. Pet mascots help make the soldiers’ lives more fun.

The early US military was largely modeled after the British military. Animal mascots were popular in the British military. They became popular in the US military as well. This mascot represented the US Navy in 1918.
