Beavers eat bark and small branches. They cut down trees. They use the wood from trees to build lodges where they can live. They also build dams, which block water in streams.

Beavers can stay underwater for up to 15 minutes! In the water, beavers are safe from predator animals that might try to eat them.

Making Connections

Have you ever seen a beaver? If not, have you seen another animal in the wild?

Have you read another book about a different animal? How is that animal similar to a beaver? How is it different?

Beavers live near trees and water. Are there many trees near where you live? Are there any lakes or rivers?
