The two buildings were called the Twin Towers. They were the tallest buildings in New York City. Many people worked in the Twin Towers. The towers were also famous. Many people knew what they looked like. They appear in many movies about New York City.

Some of the bravest people to help during and after the attack were firefighters. Hundreds of firefighters died as they tried to save people from the falling buildings. A special memorial wall in New York City remembers these firefighters as heroes.
