Learn some exciting facts about the American bison, the national mammal of the United States!

A baby bison is called a calf. A calf is born after about nine months inside its mother. Most are born in April or May. Bison calves can stand and drink milk from their mothers within just half an hour after birth. They can run within a few hours of birth. After a week, they’re able to eat grass and drink water. Calves have reddish-brown fur that becomes brown as they get older.
